Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs) are the reasonable adjustments that can be made for an exam candidate in formal, public exams (such as GCSEs or A-Levels) and might include, for example, extra time to complete an exam paper, permission to use assistive technology, or provision of supervised rest breaks.
EAAs can only be granted if they are a candidate’s ‘normal way of working’ and the candidate has a history of need. It is the sole responsibility of the school to decide what EAAs to apply for and to make the application to the awarding body. It is also the school’s responsibility to organise and complete any paperwork that may be required by the examination boards. Applications must be made by the Joint Council for Qualification’s (JCQ’s) annual deadline. The date varies each year but it is always during the Spring term of the year in which the exams will take place.
A private EAA Assessment can indicate what adjustments might be appropriate. However, regulations dictate that for private EAA assessment results to be used in an EAA application, the assessor needs to have been authorised to carry out an assessment by the school prior to the assessment taking place and the school needs to have provided certain information and documentation to the assessor in advance.
Please use the Contact Us page to find out more.
The assessor can also carry out EAA assessments for schools to support their JCQ applications.
